Description
Composition VII – Canvas Collection is a curated part of our concept Timeless Masterpieces, presenting Wassily Kandinsky’s most complex and expressive work from 1913 in a contemporary, architectural format. Composition VII is regarded as the pinnacle of Kandinsky’s artistic breakthrough and is often considered one of the most important works of abstract art – a visual symphony in which colour, form and movement interact beyond representation.
Unlike earlier abstract experiments, Composition VII is an explosive yet highly controlled work, where swirling colour fields, diagonal lines and dynamic contrasts create an intense sense of motion and emotional charge. Kandinsky approached the painting as a composer approaches music – building layer upon layer of rhythm, tension and harmony. The result is a work that does not depict reality, but instead expresses inner states, spiritual forces and existential energy.
In the 150×100 cm format, the monumental character of the work is fully realised. The horizontal orientation enhances the sense of flow and drama, with colours moving across the surface like waves of sound and light. Each viewing reveals new relationships between colour and form, making the artwork feel alive and constantly evolving within the space.
Composition VII brings a powerful, intellectual and art-historically grounded presence to any environment. It is equally suited to private interiors with strong architectural identity as to creative spaces, offices, gallery-like rooms and representative settings. This is a work that does not seek calm – but energy, depth and presence.

About the artist
Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944) was a Russian pioneer of abstract art and one of the most influential artists and theorists of modernism. He was among the first to completely liberate painting from representation, developing an art form based on the emotional and spiritual power of colour and form. Composition VII is widely regarded as his most complex and fully realised work – a milestone in the history of abstract art.
