Description

Broadway Boogie Woogie – Canvas Collection is a curated part of our Timeless Masterpieces concept, presenting Piet Mondrian’s iconic painting from 1942–43 in a contemporary, architectural format. The work marks the culmination of Mondrian’s artistic development and is a tribute to rhythm, movement and the energy of the modern city – inspired by New York’s pulsating street grid, jazz and boogie-woogie music.

Unlike Mondrian’s earlier strict grids, Broadway Boogie Woogie breaks the lines into vibrant blocks of yellow, red, blue and grey. The composition vibrates with tempo and dynamism, where each color element functions as a visual pulse in the city’s continuous flow. The result is an abstract urban landscape – a mental map of Manhattan, reduced to pure energy and balance.

In the 100×100 cm format, the rhythmic structure of the work becomes particularly clear. The square format reinforces Mondrian’s idea of equilibrium and harmony, while the placement of colors creates constant movement across the surface. The artwork functions both as a powerful focal point and as a subtle, intelligent presence in the room.

Broadway Boogie Woogie brings a refined, modernist expression to its surroundings and is equally suited for private homes, offices, creative environments and representative spaces. It is a work that does not tell a story – but creates a feeling: of city, music, time and modernity.

About the artist

Piet Mondrian (1872–1944) was a Dutch pioneer of abstract art and one of the founders of Neoplasticism. His radical reduction of form and color to vertical and horizontal lines and primary colors has had a profound influence on art, architecture, design and fashion. Broadway Boogie Woogie is considered his most vibrant late masterpiece – a meeting of strict theory and the pulse of modern city life.
