9Eleven is a work that carries a weight far beyond the visual. Two vertical forms rise towards the sky, but are broken by smoke and the colours of fire – a reminder of how quickly what we take for granted can be reduced to ruins. The painting is not a documentation of tragedy, but an abstraction of emotion: shock, stillness, loss.
Here light and darkness meet, hope and destruction. The blue sky contrasts with the rising smoke, like a wound in the heavens, an echo of the moment when the world was changed.
