Livia D is not only a portrait of a woman from the Roman Empire – it is a portrait of power in transformation, just as relevant today as it was two thousand years ago.

Description

“Livia D” – Il Scimmia – 2025

Technique: Acrylic on canvas
Artist: Il Scimmia
Material: Canvas stretched on wooden frame

Livia D is a painting where the shadows of history meet the colours of the present. The figure depicts one of the most influential women of the Roman Empire – the wife of Emperor Augustus and a master of power play and influence. Here in a new context: classical features collide with neon pink, turquoise, and the raw energy of graffiti. The result is a hybrid of history and modernity – a reminder that power and identity are always rewritten in new forms.

Her gaze is turned to the side, both distant and present. She points, she marks, but never reveals everything. A symbol of female strength, but also of the invisible structures that shape culture.
